When Your Eyes Twitch

There is a saying in Chinese which says that when your left eye twitch it symbolizes a bad omen and when your right eye twitch, it could mean good fortune. But there are also another saying which is the exact opposite. So which is the correct saying? Well, scientifically, eye twitching is believed to be caused by an abnormal functioning of certain nerve areas located at the base of the brain which control the coordination of muscle movements. It could be caused by stress, fatigue or sometimes the lack of sleep.

But for the benefit of others who strongly believe in the Chinese sayings, there is another type of explanation available. The twitching of eye could be caused by signs coming to us from some unknown sources. And twitching on different time of the day means different signs.

I'm tiger and 3am to 5am seems like a rather unlikely time for my eyes to twitch... And "an auspicious event is about to occur in your life" sounds rather lame as a prediction. It doesn't even have a time limit to begin with.

And why are the time ranges and the order of the horoscope in some kind of predictable pattern? Rat to Boar in the correct order and then 11pm for Rat and cycles back to 11pm for the Boar. The accuracy becomes very questionable with such.

Oh well, I'm done with the superstitious stuff.

I guess it is the time chart is based on the Chinese horoscope. For example, 11pm - 1am is 子时 in ancient Chinese way of taking note of time. And 子 is symbolized by the rat. The animals symbolizes the time, and not your own horoscope. So if your eye twitches between 7pm - 9pm, which is the Dog hour, you have to refer to the predictions in that particular hour. In any case, these are superstitions, 信则有,不信则无.

Really interesting post! I found myself taking and antihistamine becuase it is allergy season here in Pennsylvania. Couldn't figure out why my eyes were twitching till I realized I had dried up all the fluid in my eyes. Pretty dumb. I like your explanations about eye twitching better.
