Cave Story

I wonder if you guys have heard of this game called Cave Story. It is a really fun, simple and old-school Puzzle/Action RPG or Platformer that is free to download. Playing as the main character, Quote, you need to jump and fire your way through enemies, bosses and obstacles. In some areas, you will need to solve puzzles in order to get through. As the game progresses, you will find more weapons and equipments and that will spice up the gameplay.

Reminds me of old-school games, like Mario Bros and Megaman

The best thing about Cave Story is that it is available in a wide variety of platforms; you can play the game on PC, Mac, Linux, PSP and even XBox. Currently I am about one-third through the game on my PSP and I am already very impressed by its simple interface and addictive gameplay.

Destroy the boss with a machine gun

The game was out in 2004, developed by a Japanese, Daisuke Amaya aka Pixel. It took him 5 years to develop the game and it was released as a freeware first on PC and was then subsequently ported to other platforms. The original version was in Japanese and Aeon Genesis Translations translated the game into English.
